As we are still scratching our heads about snowfall in October and getting our costumes ready for Halloween, the Cascades Rapids Board has met to start planning the 2012 Season. There are a number of key changes highlighted below.
First, Doug Allen has graciously volunteered his time to be the President of the Cascades Rapids Swim Team Board. Thank you Doug!!!
Second, there are three new board members, Rita, Trish and Janet, thank you for volunteering your time for a great team. The returning board members are looking forward to working with each of you to make the 2012 season a great success.
Third, in addition to Doug becoming the president, there were a number of other changes, please see our contact page for a full list of all positions and key board members.
Last, but not least. A very big thank you to Dave Morley for his seven years of dedication, hard work and commitment to the Cascades Rapids Swim Team. You have been a key driver to our success and the incoming board members would like to extend a very sincere thank you for your years of service, and continued support during this off season transition.

Don’t let those swim fins collect dust now that the Cascades Rapids 2011 season is complete. With some continued training and a few more years on the Rapids perhaps your little swimmer can follow in the wake of former Rapids swimmer, Matt Mclean, who continues to set personal bests and shine on the National and International level. Matt, brother of current Rapids swimmer, Sam Mclean, started with the Rapids when he was 10 years old and holds several Rapids records. Just a few months ago Matt won the NCAA 400 meter freestyle event as a senior at the University of Virginia.
We send our congratulations to Matt and wish him continued success!

It was a great meet last night with a big shout out to all the volunteers for a well run meet that got IM’s done before 9 p.m.!! Well done!! As we near the end of the season it was great to see some of the kids trying new events outside of practice. A special thanks to the coaching staff that helped the 8 & under IM heat through their first IM!!
We did receive a report of a car that was broken into in the lower parking during the meet. Although we live in a relatively safe neighborhood, please remember to limit what you leave in the car and lock your vehicles.
We look forward to hosting Franklin Farm this Saturday. As usual, please check in at the desk to sign off on for your swimmer(s)!!

The Cascades Rapids traveled to Burke Centre on Saturday and beat the legendary Penguins 233-211. The meet was close all day with every swimmer giving 100% and the lead changing with almost every race. With the meet on the line the 15-18 boys medley relay took center stage and pulled off what can only be described as “the miracle in the pool”. Burke Center’s finest built up what looked like an insurmountable lead through the first 3 legs of the race but William Lin swam a blazing fast anchor leg and out touched the Penguin freestyler sealing the Rapids victory. The last 10 meters of this race were amazing !
The 15-18 boy relay team also set a new team record with that swim ! Way to go Max Propp, Bryce Dowling, Sean Hurrell, and William Lin!
There were numerous outstanding performances today including 4 other team records set by William. Triple winners included Rachel Williams, William Lin, Karen Hood, and Nelson Chen. Double winners included Ryan Murphy and Nicholas Sibley. The win was a total team effort!!
The Rapids come back home next week to face the 4-0 league leading Franklin Farm Froggers. Every year the Frogger meet comes down to the last relay and my guess is this year will be no exception.
Thanks to Mike Marrocco for the meet review!!!

The Rapids held their first annual Splash Party to rave reviews, this is tradition that is sure to return. Due to an alarm malfunction, the police stopped by….and as the saying goes…”it’s not a party until the police show up”

The Cascades Rapids lost on Saturday to the undefeated South Riding Sting Rays, who have an eye on this year’s Red Division crown. The Sting Rays swam with power and determination while knocking off the three time defending champion Cascades Rapids. The Rapids swimmers all gave it their best shot, in fact they swam freestyle to a virtual draw and won numerous close races, but the depth of the Stingrays was a bit to much to overcome and the final score was 248-195. Outstanding performances for the Rapids included Triple winner Nelson Chen and Double winners Rachel Williams, and Justin Touve. The Rapids travel to Burke Center next Saturday to take on the Penguins.
